PESHAWAR: The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr Justice Sajjad Ahmed Jan, has said that the revised final electoral rolls would be published according to schedule by November 30 next. Talking to [a news agency] here this evening [Aug 29] the [CEC] hoped that by that time fresh delimitation of constituencies in respect of the new division of Hazara in NWFP and the new districts of Vehari and Kasur in the Punjab would also be completed. … Replying to a question, Mr Justice Jan ruled out the possibility of further extension of the last date for annual revision of the electoral rolls.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Dacca,] renowned revolutionary Bengali poet Qazi Nazrul Islam died today [Aug 29] at Dacca at the age of 77 years. He was buried … with full military honours. Bangladesh President Abu Sadat Mohammed Sayem and the Army Chief, General Ziaur Rahman, lowered his body into the grave at the Dacca University mosque premises.

Bangladesh’s radio and television suspended normal programmes to play songs and music composed by the poet. Flags flew at half-mast … and thousands of people scattered rose petals over his body as it lay in state in the hall of Dacca University.
