RAWALPINDI: Winds and rain in some parts of Islamabad lowered the temperature and provided some relief to people dealing with hot and humid weather for the past few days.

Residents of the twin cities woke up to hot and humid weather in the morning. However, clouds hovering over the skyline raised the possibility of rain and thunderstorms during the afternoon.

The rain began at 3:17pm and continued for some time. However, it occurred only in a few places in Islamabad, while no rain was recorded in Rawalpindi and surrounding areas. As a result, the temperature dropped to 32 degrees Celsius in the twin cities. The Met Office reported 6mm of rainfall at Saidpur and 9mm at Zero Point.

“We did not record rain at our observatories in five different places in the garrison city, while rain was recorded at Saidpur and Zero Point in Islamabad,” he said.

He said continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country, while moist currents were approaching the upper parts of the country. A shallow trough of a westerly wave was also present over the northern parts.

He said hot and humid weather was expected in most plain areas of the country. However, rain, wind and thundershowers were likely at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

The latest weather advisory put the district administration, Civil Defence Department and Rescue 1122 on alert to deal with any emergency.

On the other hand, people experiencing hot and humid weather for the last three days also faced prolonged electricity load-shedding. However, the Iesco claimed that it was load management, not load-shedding.

However, residents said the government had failed to bring down fuel prices and electricity tariffs, while increased power outages had made their lives miserable.

They demanded that the government end load-shedding.
