DADU: A fierce clash between two rival groups belonging to the Chandio tribe left eight people dead and two others seriously wounded in the riverine area of Dadu district on Sunday.
According to the police, the gun battle was a second deadly clash between the two sides in recent months. The previous incident had left 10 people dead and 12 others wounded, they said.
Sources in the area said that the clash stemmed from an old enmity between the two sides living in the Dano Chandio village, falling within the limits of the Jhalo police station of the riverine area.
In the fresh clash, six people belonging to one side and two from the other side were killed, the police said. They identified the deceased as Fida Hussain, Zulfiqar alias Watni, Mohammad Bachal, Sultan, Manzoor, Irshad alias Hajan, Gulbahar and Deedar.

The injured men, Ghulam Qadir and Mumtaz, were taken to the Dadu District Headquarters Hospital for treatment, where a postmortem examination of the eight bodies was also performed.
Panic and fear gripped the village and nearby areas after the gun battle.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in the incident and conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families.
He has sought a detailed report from the Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho, and directed him to immediately investigate the incident and arrest those responsible. He ordered that indiscriminate action should be taken against all elements involved in the killings and that the perpetrators should be brought to justice without exception.
“No one can be allowed to take the law into their own hands. The criminals must be brought to justice at all costs,” Mr Shah said.
The chief minister also directed the police authorities to closely monitor the law and order situation in the village and take effective measures to prevent further escalation and defuse tension.
Meanwhile, Dadu SSP retired Capt Saddam Hussain Khaskheli, on the orders of Hyderabad DIG Tariq Razzaq Dharejo, dispatched a strong contingent of police to bring the situation under control.
The DIG has directed the SSP to ensure arrest of all those involved in the clash and strict legal action against them.
The area was cordoned off and a hunt for the suspects was started.
Police were deployed in the village to defuse tension and prevent an escalation in the violence.
