Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that more than 50,000 women have so far applied for the “Pink Electric Scooty” scheme and the training programme, which is a clear proof of women’s keen interest in this initiative of the Sindh government.
In a statement, he said that the Sindh government had provided driving and related training to more than 2,000 women so far, while the training process is ongoing in various cities of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad.
“The government aims to enable as many women as possible to drive scooties safely, helping facilitate their mobility and enabling them to play a more active role in economic and social activities,” he said.
Mr Memon said that 925 scooties were allocated in the first phase of the programme and 476 in the second phase, while more than 810 scooties have so far been distributed free of cost to women.
