KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department claimed to have arrested two suspected terrorists belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and recovered two hand grenades.

According to a CTD spokesperson, suspects Umer Farooq and Abdullah have been arrested in an intelligence-based operation jointly carried out by the CTD and an intelligence outfit.

He said that the held suspects arrived in the city from Afghanistan to carry out terrorist attacks. They had conducted reconnaissance of Rangers and police officers and their offices, and sent information to their handlers.

Man shot dead

A man was shot dead and another wounded on Superhighway while returning from the City Courts on Wednesday, according to police.

They identified the deceased as Deedar Khan, 50, and his wounded relative as Dildar Manthar, 45.

Sohrab Goth SHO Gul Baig said Deedar was nominated in a murder case and he went to the City Courts to attend the trial. He and his relative were attacked by armed assailants when they reached near a bus stand to go home in Garhi Yaseen.

He said the victim’s family said they knew the killers and they would nominate them in the FIR after performing last rites.
