PESHAWAR: A group of ideological workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has announced the formation of a volunteer unit, “Pasdaran-e-Azm Imran Khan Pakistan,” to provide assistance and protection to party workers for the September 27 long march being organised for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.

The announcement was made by PTI leader and engineer Daniyal Khan Afridi along with other party workers from Nowshera at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Afridi said that Pasdaran-e-Azm Imran Khan Pakistan was a voluntary unit comprising ideological PTI workers and would play a leading role in providing assistance to participants of the September 27 caravan.

He said the volunteers would operate within the constitutional and legal framework and would not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands. The unit, he added, would also try to prevent workers from engaging in any unconstitutional or unlawful activity.

Mr Afridi said the volunteers would provide first-aid assistance to people injured during possible shelling and extend their voluntary services wherever needed during the march.

He said the unit required proper protective equipment and appealed to the party leadership to provide volunteers with first-aid kits, helmets, protective masks, shoes and uniforms.

He also urged Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to encourage volunteers and facilitate them with the required protective and first-aid equipment.

Mr Afridi said efforts were under way to recruit more volunteers from other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to expand its services during the long march.

He said the volunteers would work to remove obstacles encountered along the route while remaining within the law.

Following the press conference, Engineer Daniyal Khan Afridi administered oath to the volunteers of Pasdaran-e-Azm Imran Khan Pakistan.
