ABBOTTABAD: Members of the National Assembly standing committee on human rights on Thursday reviewed investigation into the rape and murder of four-year-old Ayat Noor.
MNAs Sher Afzal Marwat and Babar Nawaz Khan attended an in-camera briefing by Hazara Regional Police Officer Nasir Mahmood Satti in his office here about the ongoing investigation, evidence collected and other developments in the case.
Police officers from Haripur also provided details of the detained accused.
The lawmakers later told reporters that in view of concerns raised over the case and the need for a fresh probe into the case, the RPO formed a new investigation team.
They said the new team had been tasked with thoroughly reviewing the case afresh and bringing out the facts within 15 days so that all legal requirements could be fulfilled and justice dispensed.
The MNAs said the recommendations and findings emerging from the investigation would be laid before the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights in the next meeting.
Meanwhile, MNA Marwat also commented on the proposed long march scheduled for September 27. He said workers would gather in Swabi and return afterwards.
Marwat said the people had been kept in the dark in the name of the long march, using the phrase that people had been made to “look behind the truck lights,” and indicated that the gathering in Swabi would be the main activity.
