Six call centre operators held in fraud case

KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), Karachi, on Thursday arrested six suspects in a raid on a call centre located in Gulistan-i-Iqbal, Block 6, near NIPA Chowrangi.

The agency claimed that the suspects were involved in extorting foreign nationals.

According to the NCCIA statement, initial investigation suggested that the suspects were impersonating themselves as officials of foreign banks, and that they were fraudulently obtaining foreigners’ personal and financial information, including debit and credit card details. The information was being allegedly used for fraudulent activities, he said.

He said that the six arrested suspects, included the owners / operators of the call centre. Several laptops, mobile phones and other electronic devices being used in the alleged scam were also taken into custody from the premises, it said.

A case has been registered vide FIR No. 78/26 under Sections 3, 4, 13, 14, 16 and 26 of the Pakistan Electronic Crime Act of 2025, read with Sections 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), against the suspects. The suspects were identified as Bilal Mateen, Tuaha Manzoor, Mawaz Bin Sami, Cyrus Zakariya, Tayab Mushtaq and Talha Khan.

“Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend other associates of the suspects,” the statement said.
