KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested nine men after they, along with their dozens of accomplices, some of them armed with weapons, attacked a police post and wounded two policemen in Korangi.
A police spokesperson in a statement said that on Thursday night, the Awami Colony police were busy with snap checks near Saima Apartments when they signalled two suspicious persons riding a motorcycle to stop.
However, the suspects managed to escape from the spot. Later, the suspects, along with their 60-70 accomplices, stormed the police post.
They attacked the policemen and opened fire, resulting in bullet wounds to two policemen, Amir Ali and Ateeq Kalwar.
The suspects also ransacked the police post and damaged it.
Subsequently, the police conducted raids and arrested nine suspects allegedly involved in the attack.
The held suspects were identified as Gul, Zaman, Shoaib Ali, Zahid Ali, Khalid Ali, Waheed Ali, Ali Murad, Baber Shah and Nizam Gul.
The police claimed to have recovered four .30-bore pistols from their custody and registered a case under Sections 147 (rioting), 324 (attempted murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.
