KARACHI: An angry mob torched a water tanker after a fatal incident in Korangi on Friday, police and rescue services officials said.
A traffic police official said that the tanker driver was involved in rash and negligent driving when he hit a motorcycle near Singer Chowrangi. As a result, two men were injured. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Mehfooz Ilyas was pronounced dead on arrival, while his son Qasim was admitted for treatment in a critical condition.
The tanker driver managed to escape from the spot, leaving behind the heavy vehicle that was set on fire by an angry mob.
Rescue-1122 Spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said that their fire tender reached the spot but the mob put up serious resistance and did not allow firemen to control the blaze. He said when the tanker was badly destroyed, only then did the people allow them to extinguish the fire.
