CHINIOT: Almost 60pc of the 9th grade students studying in public sector schools in Chiniot district have failed.

As many as 10,058 students from 93 high schools appeared in the examination held under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Faisalabad. Of them only 3,939 could pass.

Dawn learnt that there are 93 government high and higher secondary boys and girls’ high schools in the district which are imparting education to people of less-privileged segments of society.

The results show a dismal picture of official claims of improving the quality of education in these schools.

The overall (with private sector combined) 51.21pc of the students passed the examination in all the districts of Chiniot; Toba Tek Singh; Jhang and Faisalabad. Unfortunately, 65 out of the total 93 high schools could not attain a benchmark of up to 51.21pc which was the overall result of the Faisalabad board.

In the Government High School Chak 132 JB only one student could pass and 55 failed out 56 appeared.

Similarly, only two students out of 25 could pass in Government Girls High School Chak 34 JB.

Amongst the schools of Chiniot city, GGHS Ghafoorabad showed only 15.38pc result where 55 out of 65 students failed.

The Government Girls High School, Changranwala, was the only fortunate public sector high school in the district which secured 100pc result -- 29 out of 29.

The District Education Officer, secondary wing, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad has issued explanation notices to heads of 65 poor performing schools. The heads were directed to personally appear before the DEO with written explanation, supported by relevant documentary records/evidence or they would be proceeded against under PEEDA Act, 2007, the notices say.
