KARACHI: The people of Karachi endured a hot and humid day on Sunday as the temperature climbed to 40.2 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.

Humidity was recorded at 52 per cent, adding to the discomfort caused by the intense heat.

“The combination of high temperatures and moderate humidity can increase the heat burden and make conditions particularly uncomfortable,” a Met official said.

According to the Met Office, temperatures are expected to remain high on Monday, with similar hot conditions likely to persist.

“Hot and humid weather is expected in most districts of the province. However, partly cloudy weather is likely in southeastern areas, while rain-wind/thunderstorm (with isolated heavy rainfall/hailstorm) is expected in Karachi and its surroundings, Tharparkar, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Thatta,” said the Met department.

The highest temperature of 42°C was recorded in Mithi and Nawabshah, followed by Hyderabad, Dadu, Mohenjo Daro and Thatta with 40°C, and Sukkur with 39°C.
