ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Sohail Chaudhry and Ali Wasim have assumed charge as the Islamabad Inspector General of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), respectively.

Newly appointed IGP Chaudhry was welcomed by police officers and officials upon his arrival at the Central Police Office, where a formal change-of-command ceremony was also held on Tuesday. A police contingent presented him with a salute.

The police chief held introductory meetings with senior police officers and received detailed briefings on professional and operational matters. He also met the CPO staff and discussed various departmental matters.

The IGP visited the Martyrs’ Memorial and paid tribute to the martyrs of Islamabad police. He laid a floral wreath at the memorial and offered prayers for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs.

IGP Islamabad outlined clear priorities for Islamabad police, stating that maintaining law and order and ensuring the protection of citizens were the foremost priorities. Timely and effective police services would be ensured for citizens, while there would be no compromise on merit, transparency and the rule of law.

The professional capabilities of Islamabad police would be further enhanced and effective measures would be taken to prevent crime and protect the lives and property of citizens, he said, adding that traffic management and public facilities in Islamabad would also be further improved.

Chaudhry urged police officers and officials to demonstrate courteous, responsible and professional conduct towards citizens. Effective measures would be taken to further strengthen public trust in the police, while the effective use of modern technology would further improve the policing system.

He also emphasised further strengthening the accountability and discipline system within the police force and raising professional standards.

Likewise, vowing zero tolerance for abuse of power and dereliction of duty, newly appointed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ali Wasim formally assumed charge, directing senior officers to immediately intensify field operations and enhance citizen protection across the federal capital.

In his maiden operational meeting with the top Islamabad Police command, he conducted a comprehensive review of the capital’s security situation and current crime trends. Interacting with field commanders, the DIG laid out a clear administrative roadmap focused on accountability, swift complaint redressal and unbiased enforcement of the law.

“The law applies equally to everyone, no individual or group stands above it,” DIG Wasim asserted, warning that while high-performing officers would be rewarded on merit, negligence or misconduct would face immediate disciplinary action.

He directed all circle and station officers to increase their field presence, streamline intelligence-led operations and rebuild public trust through responsive, high-integrity policing.
