The meeting of the Arab League Council scheduled for Sept 29, Dawn understands, is likely to be postponed pending conclusion of ... negotiations with non-Arab countries.

Another diplomatic source said that there is a move to bring an amendment to the Arab League constitution allowing admission to non-Arab countries at the forthcoming meeting of the Council. Events, he said, had proved ... that individually the Muslim countries could not successfully tackle the problems that are facing them. International issues like the Palestine and Kashmir questions, the Iranian oil dispute, and the Suez Canal ... could be dealt with much more effectively by a powerful Muslim countries’ political bloc.

The necessity of a united Muslim front, he observed, was acutely felt ... from Morocco to Indonesia. He hoped, petty considerations would not obstruct the unity of the Muslim world, and the countries concerned would make up their minds quickly. Time, he said was an important factor. “I think: NOW OR NEVER” he concluded.
