ISLAMABAD: An under custody handcuffed suspect was injured during an encounter, police said.

The suspect was arrested by the police in connection with robbery cum murder incident, in the area of Sihala police station. The case was registered on June 29.

According to details, suspects intercepted Abdul Rehman and his friend Ali Raza at Kak Bridge and held them at gunpoint.

Later the gunmen looted cash and mobile phone worth Rs60,000 from Ali Raza.

In the meantime, physical confrontation started between the robbers and Abdul Rehman who fell from the bridge and died on the spot.

After arresting the suspect the police obtained his physical remand for further investigation and interrogation.

During interrogation the suspect offered to help recover a mobile phone which was kept near a godown in Sihala Railway line.

A police team was constituted and the handcuffed suspect was taken there for the recovery.

After the recovery the police team was returning back when all of a sudden four persons riding on two motorcycles appeared and blocked the police vehicle near Kahuta Road.

The motorcycle riders opened fire on the police team to get the suspect free from custody.

The police team took cover behind the vehicle and retaliated with firing in the air.

In the meantime the suspect somehow succeeded to set his handcuff free from the hands of a constable and jumped off the vehicle and ran away.

However, he sustained bullet injury from the firing of the motorcycle riders and fell on the ground.

Later all four riders escaped from the spot on their motorcycles. The suspect was rearrested with bullet injuries and later shifted to hospital for medical assistance.
