CHARSADDA: Speakers at an awareness session here on Thursday highlighted the importance of creating a safe, respectful and conducive environment for women at workplaces and educational institutions.
They were speaking at the awareness session on workplace harassment and women’s legal and property rights.
The session was organised under the directives of the provincial government.
Provincial ombudsperson Rubab Mehdi attended the session as the chief guest.
Importance of creating conducive environment for women highlighted
Representatives of the Social Welfare Department, District Youth Office and police department also participated in the programme, which brought together officials, educationists, students and representatives of various institutions.
Principals and faculty members of Bacha Khan University, Government Postgraduate College, Government Girls Degree College and other educational institutions attended the session along with male and female students and representatives of the District Youth Organisation.
During the session, participants were briefed about measures for preventing harassment at workplaces, legal protections available to women and their rights to property. They were also informed about the procedures for registering complaints and seeking redress through the relevant institutions.
Speakers highlighted the importance of creating a safe, respectful and conducive environment for women at workplaces and educational institutions. They stressed the need for relevant departments and institutions to play an effective role in protecting women’s rights and addressing complaints in accordance with the law.
The participants were also sensitised to the legal mechanisms available to women in cases involving workplace harassment and property-related rights. The session emphasised that awareness about legal rights was essential for enabling women to seek appropriate remedies when their rights were violated.
The role of government departments, educational institutions, law-enforcement agencies and other relevant bodies in ensuring protection of women’s rights also came under discussion. The speakers called for greater coordination among these institutions to improve awareness and facilitate access to complaint and redress mechanisms.
The organisers said the session was aimed at increasing awareness among women and the wider community about their legal and property rights and providing information about effective mechanisms to address workplace harassment.
They said such awareness programmes were important for promoting a safe and dignified environment for women and encouraging institutions to fulfil their responsibilities towards the protection of their rights.
The participation of students, faculty members, government officials and representatives of different departments was described as part of efforts to strengthen institutional cooperation and promote awareness of legal safeguards available to women.
The session concluded with an emphasis on continued awareness initiatives and coordinated efforts by government departments and educational institutions to protect women’s rights and prevent harassment at workplaces.
