Iran's Baqaei says attending UN General Assembly is country’s right

Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei says attending the UN General Assembly is Tehran’s right after the US confirmed it granted visas to the Iranian delegation for travel to New York for next week’s summit, Al Jazeera reports citing the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA).

“A trip to New York holds no appeal for Iranian diplomats, yet it is a bastion that must not be abandoned,” Baaqaei is quoted as saying by ISNA.

“Participating in the UN summit is our right, and at this gathering, we must loudly proclaim the righteousness of the Iranian nation. We must certainly ensure that the trip to New York conveys no signal that the enemy could interpret as a sign of weakness on the Iranian side. No signal should be sent other than one reflecting Iran’s true power and authority,” he adds.
