QUETTA: Security forces killed 11 terrorists in intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Panjgur and Chagai districts, officials said here on Saturday.
According to security officials, security forces conducted an operation in the Gwargo area of Panjgur district after receiving information about the presence of armed terrorists.
“Five terrorists were killed in a heavy gun battle,” the officials said, adding that a large quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the area, which the terrorists were allegedly using to carry out attacks on security forces and civilians.
The bodies of the five terrorists were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital, Panjgur, the officials said.
They said security forces also launched an intelligence-based operation in the Amiriabad and Siha Chung areas of Chagai district. The operation was continuing in the area, they added.
During heavy exchanges of fire, six terrorists belonging to a banned organisation were killed, officials said. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the site.
Officials said operations under the Operation Radd-ul-Fitna would continue against terrorist groups until their elimination from Balochistan.
Earlier on Friday, security forces killed seven terrorists during two intelligence-based operations (IBO) in Balochistan, state broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported, citing sources.
Five of the terrorists were killed in the Fateh Ali area of Panjgur district, the report said, adding that large quantities of weapons and ammunition were found in their possession.
Meanwhile, an IBO was conducted in the Dhadar area of Kachhi district, during which two terrorists, were killed, it added.
Several other terrorists were also reportedly injured during the operation, according to the report.
Balochistan has witnessed an increase in terrorist attacks in recent weeks, prompting security forces to intensify counter-terrorism operations.
Last month, the number of terrorist attacks in the province increased by seven per cent from 83 in July to 89 in August, according to a monthly assessment by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.
