SAHIWAL: Farid Town police arrested Asad Khan Baloch, former mayor of the municipal corporation and ex-ticket holder of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), along with Muhammad Shahid Chohan, City President of PTI, late on Saturday night.

Officials confirmed that Shahid Chohan was shifted to the Sahiwal Central Prison, while Asad Khan Baloch remained in Farid Town police custody till filing of this report.

The district administration also sealed two petrol pumps owned by the arrested leaders on Old GT Road.

Police said the arrests were made in connection with preparations for events announced by PTI’s founding chairman for his release on Sept 27.

Authorities also attempted to detain party activist Naveed Aslam, but he evaded the arrest. A gym in the city center was sealed.

Sources added earlier 40 PTI workers, office-bearers, and activists had been detained and sent to the Central Prison for 30 days under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO), on orders issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Sahiwal.

The arrests were carried out across both Sahiwal and Chichawatni tehsils. With the latest arrests, 47 PTI activists and office-bearers have so far been sent to Sahiwal Central Prison.
