GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Police successfully foiled a terrorist attack on Sunday after a group of around nine terrorists opened fire on a police party at a seasonal check post situated in the rugged region between the Diamer and Ghizer districts, authorities said.
According to a statement issued by a GB Police spokesperson, the officers immediately mounted an effective retaliatory response when the attackers targeted the Sargah Nallah seasonal police check post, located within the jurisdiction of the Singal police station.
However, taking advantage of the difficult mountainous terrain and their higher position, the attackers managed to flee, the statement said. All police personnel remained safe during the firing and no casualties were reported.
In view of the security situation, steps are being taken to relocate the police party to a safer and strategically suitable location. Authorities are also providing additional personnel, as well as the necessary logistics and equipment, to fortify the area. The situation continues to be monitored closely at the district level.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Police condemned the violence and reiterated its resolve to combat terrorism.
“The Gilgit-Baltistan Police strongly condemns this cowardly terrorist attack and reiterates its resolve to fulfil its responsibilities for maintaining law and order, protecting the lives and property of the public, and combating terrorism,” the spokesperson said in the statement.
