ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has started handing over allotment letters to the affectees of E-12 for getting possession of the land to start development work in the sector.

The sector was launched in 1989 but despite the passage of 37 years, the CDA has failed to complete development work. Besides other factors, delay in the release of compensation to those, whose land and houses had been acquired and who were also entitled to get developed plots, was the major reason behind the delay.

The CDA recently handed over 15 allotment letters to win confidence of the local landlords. The civic agency has executed development work in most parts of three sub-sectors but sub-sector 4 still lags behind.

On the other hand, those who purchased plots from CDA in 1989 have been waiting to get developed plots. Sources said many original allottees had already died.

Recently, the CDA started a drive to get possession of the land, but the locals resisted the move saying until and unless they got their rights they would not vacate the area.

Sources said the operation still continued and CDA had cleared the area where compensation had already been paid.

Local MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan had urged the CDA to first clear the compensation cases and then get possession of land.

Sources said that around 146 allotment letters against BuP were pending on part of CDA.

They said that when the matter was brought into the notice of the CDA chairman and the member Estate, they agreed that legitimate compensation cases should be paid immediately.

To this, CDA’s Deputy Commissioner Abdul Rauf Khan, Director Enforcement Chaudhry Kamran Bakhat and Deputy Director Riaz Khan visited the site and handed over 15 letters to affectees.

They also promised that the remaining allotment letters will also be issued soon.

Speaking on the occasion, MNA Khan assured the CDA team that locals will vacate the area amicably after getting their compensation.

He appreciated the CDA chairman, members, additional deputy commissioner general and others for playing a positive role in resolving genuine issues of local landlords. The locals also praised the CDA for starting the process of releasing their pending compensation cases.

Meanwhile, a source said that a committee had also been formed at the land directorate to resolve pending land issues of the locals.

It is relevant to note here that like E-12, compensation cases of several other sectors such as E-13,D-13, F-13, C-13, C-15, C-16 are pending. “All genuine land owners should be compensated and plots against their land and built-up property should be allotted without any delay.

Strict action should be taken against those who claimed compensation cases on the basis of fake documents or received compensation a second time,” said an official.
