ISLAMABAD: In an apparent move to counter the opposition’s planned protest, the local administration has banned all kinds of gatherings and processions in the capital city for two months.

The administration shared the order issued from the office of the additional district magistrate on Wednesday night.

“It has been brought to appear before that certain segments of society are planning to organise unlawful assemblies …. within the jurisdiction of Islamabad Capital Territory which can disrupt public peace and tranquility and keeping in view the current law and order and security environment, it is necessary to control such types of illegal activities which present a threat to public peace, tranquility and maintenance of law & order,” says the order.

“The district magistrate in exercise of powers conferred under Section 144 Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1898 do hereby prohibit all kinds of gatherings of five or more persons, processions/rallies and demonstrations at any public place within the revenue limits of district Islamabad, including the Red Zone.
