DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Work to restore the breached Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) is expected to begin next week, as authorities have expedited arrangements for repair and rehabilitation of the damaged canal sections following the recent breach that disrupted water supply and irrigation in the affected areas.

Commissioner Daud Khan held a meeting with the chief engineer (South) of the irrigation department in his office here to review the progress and arrangements for restoration of the CRBC canal. Irrigation officials and assistant commissioner Sajjad Baloch also attended the meeting.

The meeting focused on the restoration of the canal, repair of the sections damaged by the breach, ongoing and proposed rehabilitation measures and other related matters. The participants also discussed the issues being faced in the rehabilitation process and measures required to ensure that the restoration work was taken forward without unnecessary delay.

Commissioner Daud Khan stressed the importance of early rehabilitation of the CRBC canal.

Earlier, a meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Hikmatullah was held in view of the disruption caused by the CRBC canal breach.

The meeting directed all departments to complete the restoration and construction work on an emergency basis so that the difficulties being faced by residents and farmers could be addressed at the earliest.
