Official Iranian statements following high-level contacts with Pakistan have endorsed Islamabad’s mediatory efforts and underlined Tehran’s desire to continue working with Pakistan to reduce regional tensions and help bring the ongoing war to an end, according to a Dawn correspondent.
The message emerged from separate meetings between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
President Pezeshkian, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA, has expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s “principled approaches and coordinated efforts” in support of regional peace, stability and security.
He stresses the importance of continued diplomatic consultations and initiatives to reduce tensions and prevent the expansion of regional crises — a message that comes as Pakistan continues its efforts to facilitate dialogue and de-escalation between Iran and the United States.
