Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has “expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive efforts as a mediator in the negotiations with the United States”, according to a statement from the Iranian foreign ministry.

Tehran’s top diplomat, in a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, notes that breaches of commitments by the United States undermine the position of the mediating institution.

He specifically links the issue to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, saying that the US violation of the MoU resulted in heightened insecurity and tensions in the region, and that Washington is responsible for the continuation of the consequences of the situation.

Araghchi has also briefed Dar on the latest status of the talks and the bilateral understanding between Iran and Oman regarding the determination of an appropriate route for the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. In addition, Dar has been briefed on Iran’s interactions with the United States through Qatar.
