ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Islamabad Zone has imposed 76 punishments, including the dismissal of 10 employees from service and the demotion of eight others.

According to the agency, the action was taken during an orderly room held under the chairmanship of Islamabad Zone Director Syed Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari to ensure departmental accountability, discipline and professional conduct. The performance of officers and officials, disciplinary violations, irresponsible and unprofessional conduct and public complaints were reviewed. The concerned officers and officials were heard in person and given full opportunity to present their viewpoint. After examining the relevant record and available material, punishments were awarded under the Civil Servants (Efficiency & Discipline) Rules, 2020.

The FIA said 10 employees were dismissed from government service, eight were demoted and 58 others were awarded other departmental punishments. Those dismissed included Sub-Inspector Hassan Ali, UDC Mohammad Soban, Head Constables Tahir Mahmood, Melon Masih and Mohammad Bilal, Constables Tahir Safeer, Mohammad Ahmed Raza, Aqib Mahmood and Tahir Mahmood, and ASI Mubashar Kazmi.

Those demoted included ASI Mohammad Niaz Mir and Mohammad Waseem Iqbal to head constable, UDC Sheraz Manzoor to LDC and head constables Rizwan Ali Khan, Masood Ahmed, Mudassar Ali, Almas Ilyas and Qasim Mahmood to constable.

Of the remaining 58 punishments, promotion was withheld for three years in 19 cases, for two years in 27 cases and for one year in five cases, while pay scale was reduced by three stages in one case and six officials were censured.

Alongside accountability, the director also encouraged good performance and awarded commendation certificates Class-II (CC-II) to three officers for showing outstanding performance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Bukhari said there would be no compromise on violation of discipline, corruption, misuse of authority and irresponsible and unprofessional conduct. Strict departmental action will be taken against any officer or official found involved in such practices, he added. He made it clear that good performance would be fully appreciated, but a zero-tolerance policy would be pursued against elements compromising on discipline, honesty and professional responsibilities.
