LAHORE: A sessions court has directed the vice chancellor (VC) and public relations officer (PRO) of the University of Okara to furnish sureties in a private complaint filed by a woman teacher over alleged harassment, defamation and misuse of authority.
Earlier, VC Dr Sajjad Mubin and PRO Sharjeel Ahmad appeared before Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Ghaffar in compliance with repeated summons issued by the court.
The complainant, Dr Shehla Honey, had filed the criminal complaint under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against both officials.
Advocate Safdar Shaheen Pirzada appeared on behalf of the complainant and alleged that his client was subjected to harassment and retaliatory measures after refusing, what she described as, unlawful and unwanted demands.
He said her salary and other benefits were withheld and obstacles were created in her promotion.
The counsel further alleged that a smear campaign was launched against the complainant through the university’s official website, social media accounts and other media platforms.
He asked the court to allow the complaint and punish the suspects under the law.
The judge adjourned the hearing till Oct 5 and ordered the suspects to furnish sureties before the next date.
