ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar said on Saturday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had powerfully presented the case of the Muslim Ummah, particularly Palestine, at the United Nations General Assembly.

Addressing a news conference along with Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ikhtiar Wali, the minister said the prime minister’s speech at the UNGA had been appreciated across the world. He said Palestinian representatives had openly applauded the address.

Mr Tarar said Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people was not confined to words but had been demonstrated through practical measures. “Pakistan has sent relief assistance for the Palestinians,” he said, adding that the government had continued to support them in their hour of need.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also played a role in facilitating medical education for Palestinian students.

“Palestinian students are studying in Pakistan,” he said, adding that the initiative reflected Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Palestinians beyond diplomatic statements.

The minister said the prime minister had clearly presented the Palestinian case before the international community and condemned Israel’s actions against the Palestinians. He said Pakistan would continue to raise its voice for their rights at international forums.

He also reiterated that the government would continue to support the people of Kashmir, saying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had made Pakistan’s position clear in his UNGA address.

Mr Tarar said India had been given a “befitting response” under the “brave military leadership” of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. He also referred to the sharing of a clip from Mr Shehbaz’s UN speech by the US president on social media, terming it significant.

He said the world was witnessing Pakistan’s role as a mediator between the United States and Iran.

Mr Tarar expressed hope that oil prices would decline soon, which, he said, would help economies around the world achieve growth.

The minister said Pakistan would continue to play its role for peace and stability in the region and beyond.

The federal government spokesman also claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) had become weaker than ever and lost its political standing. He alleged that the PTI had links with terrorists and was reluctant to condemn militant activities.

He said police and security forces were rendering sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, adding that the government was determined to eliminate the menace. “We say it openly that terrorists will be eliminated completely,” he said.

Referring to Sohail Khan Afridi, Mr Tarar said the PTI leader had lost credibility within the party, alleging that his “cowardice and political incompetence” had been exposed. He further claimed that Mr Afridi had lost his political credibility and had little left in terms of political standing.

The minister said such political weakness had never been witnessed in the PTI before.
