Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has dismissed US plans to send teams abroad to press other governments over their economic ties with Tehran.
In a post on X, he said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent spoke as though he considered the world to be the “backyard” of the US. Bessent previously stated that the US had deployed envoys to pressure countries into economically isolating Iran.
“Independent governments determine their relations with Iran based on their own interests and priorities, not the orders of the US Treasury,” Gharibabadi said.
He added that “the era of imposing will through threats and sanctions is coming to an end”.
