European energy ministers are to hold talks in Dublin tomorrow as the EU looks to cushion the impact of soaring energy prices ahead of a winter that promises to be difficult for consumers, AFP reports.

European gas prices have more than doubled owing to the US-Iran war, just as Europe needs to replenish its reserves with winter beckoning.

Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen wrote to the 27 member states ahead of the meeting, recommending measures to reduce demand for electricity and gas to help contain prices.

“I invite you to consider taking or continuing to take measures that can… reduce gas and electricity demand for as long as necessary,” he wrote in the letter seen by AFP.

The informal talks are not expected to result in major decisions, but will help coordinate action among the bloc’s nations.
