TAXILA: Academic activities in 41 government schools across Attock district have remained suspended for the last eight days with classrooms and school facilities being used to accommodate police and other law-enforcement personnel deployed for security duties linked to the PTI’s protest preparations.

The prolonged closure has disrupted the studies of hundreds of students, raising concerns among parents and teachers over the loss of valuable classroom time at a critical stage of the academic year.

According to district education authorities, 21 boys’ and girls’ high schools in Hazro, nine in Hassanabdal, seven in Fatehjang and two each in Attock and Jand tehsils have been affected.

The institutions have been earmarked to provide temporary accommodation and resting facilities to security personnel arriving from different parts of Punjab.

A large contingent of police has been deployed in Attock as part of security arrangements.

Sources said that 30,700 police personnel including officials from elite force, special branch, Punjab highway patrolling police from six districts had been deployed in Attock, while additional forces were accommodated in schools and other buildings.

The PTI has postponed its September 27 march to October 4, but educational institutions have yet to resume academic activities.
