ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has highlighted the strong friendship between Pakistan and China by paying tribute to Confucius and his lasting message of harmony, friendship and mutual respect.

Speaking via video message at the 2026 China International Confucius Culture Festival in Qufu, the hometown of the philosopher, Gilani connected ancient cultural values with modern diplomacy.

The address marks a significant milestone as both nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations this year.

In his message, Gilani welcomed the gathering of global scholars and guests, noting that ancient teachings on learning, friendship, harmony and mutual respect are still deeply relevant today.

He explained that these classic principles offer valuable lessons for building peaceful international relationships.

Turning to bilateral ties, the Senate chairman described the partnership between Islamabad and Beijing as a model of deep trust and mutual support.

He emphasised that their famous ‘Iron Brotherhood’ had stood the test of time and continued to act as a vital anchor for peace and stability across the region.

By participating in this cultural festival, Pakistan’s leadership showcased that their strategic bond goes far beyond politics and trade, remaining deeply rooted in shared values.

Chairman Gilani also highlighted the growing role of education, cultural exchange and people-to-people contacts in bringing the peoples of Pakistan and China closer.

He particularly underscored the contribution of Confucius institutes in Pakistani universities in promoting language and cultural understanding.

Calling for greater opportunities for young people to learn from one another, he stressed the need to deepen exchanges in literature, education, science, technology and culture, enabling the two civilisations to connect through ideas, knowledge and human understanding.

The Senate chairman expressed the hope that the festival would further promote mutual understanding and bring the peoples of Pakistan and China closer, observing that the most enduring bridges were built not only with stone and steel, but also with knowledge, friendship and the human heart.

He concluded by wishing the festival every success and reaffirming the enduring Pakistan-China friendship.
