IMF asks for more budgetary steps to meet key objectives

ISLAMABAD: Additional measures will be needed to bring Pakistan’s budget for the year 2022-23 in line with the key objectives of its International Monetary Fund programme, the lender’s resident representative in Islamabad said.

“Our preliminary estimate is that additional measures will be needed to strengthen the budget and bring it in line with key programme objectives,” Esther Perez Ruiz told Reuters.

Pakistan unveiled a 9.5 trillion budget for the next fiscal on Friday aimed at tight fiscal consolidation in a bid to convince the IMF to restart much-needed bailout payments.

How come IMF is not concerned with the root cause of our financial problems i.e current account (USD) deficit to the tune of 45 Billion USD annually, and disproportionately large imports which we cannot afford? IMF never asked Pakistan to not exceed its foreign currency income while permitting imports. Actually, they were unhappy over ban on luxury imports by this govt to reduce dollar outflows. What this indicates that IMF wants to keep Pakistan alive but perpetually sick and dependent upon IMF

IMF's motive is not to strengthen the economies of the Countries. It is intended to make the Countries their financial slaves and have them fulfill US' motives. Name me 1 Country that benefited from IMF's package to rebuild their economy. That is why a Country like India said good bye to IMF in 1991.

Thank you neutrals & Judiciary. IMF put similar conditions on PTI govt but IK did what he wanted. This angered IMF & US, the main contributor to IMF. With growing remittance export & record tax collection, IK govt was planning to pay off all debts within next 5 years, which was not acceptable to IMF & US.

The IMF is not a charitable organisation. They are the lenders to the world and are only looking to lend to countries who they think can pay them back. The sooner you guys understand this, the better. If you don't like their terms, then don't approach them for loans. They are not forcing you to borrow from them.
