Website review: Switch on your brains!

Even when we are saying that kids should not use electronic gadgets too much like mobile phones, tablets and computers, yet the use of such devices is prevalent in almost all households. Whether extensively or briefly, but it does.

If this is the case, why not make your time worthwhile and engage yourself in something unique with www.brainson.org/ — a website exclusively about science podcasts for kids and all the curious minds out there.

Brains On! is an award-winning American Public Media podcast website for kids and families.

Every week, co-host Molly Bloom (A child) invites a kid co-host, who introduces a question about the world, which could be anything intriguing such as, “why do we like sugars so much?”, or “how far can a cloud travel?” etc.

Of course, as kids you may have many questions in mind, they can be silly and unusual, but the website encourages all of you to ask whatever that comes to your mind, because no question is silly.

Then kids take interviews from the experts in the field and help give answers to the question asked in a fun and entertaining way. As far as the language in the podcasts is concerned, it is easy to understand, but sometimes gets advanced and technical for young kids.

The site has more than 200 available episodes that vary widely in length from seven minutes to an hour, and provide all the necessary information on the topic from historical to scientific perspective.

There are segments like “Mystery Sound” which gives the kid co-host a chance to guess what is happening in an audio clip being played, and there is a “Moment of Um” which briefly addresses a listener question which is unrelated to the week’s topic.

You can also experience musical interludes, game-show-like segments, fictional character interactions, and kid voices that liven up the episodes. Some episodes take on a friendly debate format then switch to serious discussions and opinions on the topic, while others stick mostly to facts from experts. So you have a lot to listen, all the mindboggling questions that only you, means you kids could think of are answered here.

I bet the podcasts will literally make your time a worthwhile at https://www.brainson.org/
