ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff Gen Syed Asim Munir called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his maiden meeting at the latter’s office on Wednesday.

Mr Sharif congratulated him on assuming responsibilities as COAS.

He said the nation was happy over Gen Munir’s becoming the new army chief and expressed the hope that civil-military relations would strengthen.

The prime minister also said Gen Munir’s professional and leadership qualities would help the armed forces’ institution grow stronger.

They also discussed armed forces’ professional and national security matters.

The army chief thanked the PM for the good wishes extended to him.

@salman, Earlier he met President that’s fine. The COAS will always present before the PM the financial crunches in Army Affairs. Though the Defense Budget is there, the contingency huge expenditure occurred in managing flood relief operations, besides the expensive oil prices had placed a negative effects on Defense Procurement of imported stuff. If PM fails to resolve financial crunches, he may be asked to hold elections, a way forward to stability.

@Justice, Not exactly. In fact the new COAS will maintain a balanced relationship with PDM & PTI. The PDM should resolve their political issues with PTI politically, and forget any covert help from any organization. The great onus today is on fresh elections. The performance of PDM is not exemplary or impressive, to justify their completion of so called tenure. They must leave, and let elections happen.
