Murder convict sentenced to death

TAXILA: A murder convict was sentenced to death while his two accomplices were imprisoned for life on Saturday for murdering a man in May 2021 within the limits of Pindigheb police station.

As per the FIR, the prime suspect, Aqil Khan, along with Abdul Razaq and his brother Mohammad Safdar, killed Mazhar Ali over some enmity in the Gandakas area and fled away.

Later, police arrested them from their hideout, and during the trial, the prosecution produced substantial evidence against the accused suspects, which verified their involvement in the murder of Mazhar Ali.

Subsequently, the Additional Session Judge, Pindigheb Qammar Zaman Bhatti, announced the verdict, awarding the death penalty to Aqil Khan while serving life imprisonment to Abdul Razaq and Mohmmad Safdar. The judge also imposed fines on convicts.

Meanwhile, Attock Police arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) wanted in two different cases on Saturday.

As per a police spokesman, Pindigheb police arrested a PO identified as Mohammad Asghar wanted in a theft case, while Fatehjang police arrested a PO identified as Nawar Kamal wanted in a cattle theft case.

Motorcyclist crushed to death

A motorcyclist was crushed to death by a passenger van on Kohat-Rawalpindi Road near Tehsil headquarters hospital in Pindigheb on Saturday. As per police, Mohammad Tariq, a native of Dhoke Dera, was on his way to visit an ailing relative at the Tehsil headquarters hospital when a Rawalpindi-bound passenger van knocked on his motorcycle.

He was taken to Tehsil headquarters hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. Police registered a case against the van driver and launched further investigation.
