Adventure unfolds in Harold and the Purple Crayon trailer

Sony has released the official trailer for Harold and the Purple Crayon, the live-action adaption of the popular children’s book starring Zachary Levi.

“Inside of his book, adventurous Harold (Zachary Levi) can make anything come to life simply by drawing it. After he grows up and draws himself off the book’s pages and into the physical world, Harold finds he has a lot to learn about real life — and that his trusty purple crayon may set off more hilarious hijinks than he thought possible,” the official synopsis reads. Harold and the Purple Crayon is the first film adaptation of the beloved children’s classic of the 1955 children’s book by Crockett Johnson. John Davis will produce, while the duo of Jeremy Stein and Jenny Hinkey will executive produce. The film arrives in theatres on August 2, 2024.

The Neverending Story reboot in the works

A new live-action film series of The Neverending Story will be developed and produced by See-Saw and Michael Ende Productions.

The Neverending Story was first published in Germany in 1979. The book follows Bastian Balthasar Bux, a young boy who comes across an old book and discovers the magical land of Fantastica.

Ende’s novel was previously adapted as the 1984 film The NeverEnding Story, directed and co-written by Wolfgang Petersen. The movie was followed by two sequels, The Next Chapter (1990) and Escape from Fantasia (1994).

Olympics opening ceremony to screen in Imax theatres

Imax announced that NBC coverage of the opening ceremony will be shown live at more than 150 locations nationwide July 26.

The big-screen event marks the first time an Olympics opening ceremony will be presented live in Imax.

This year’s ceremony will take place along the River Seine and feature a four-mile-long flotilla of nearly 100 boats, which “will carry thousands of athletes from more than 200 countries, past hundreds of thousands of spectators seated on the banks of the Seine.”

The river parade will follow the Seine past iconic Paris sites, including Austerlitz Bridge and the Jardin des Plantes, and finish in front of the Trocadéro, where the final elements of the show and ceremony will take place.
