SAHIWAL: Regional Anti-Terrorism Court Special Judge Ziaullah Khan on Wednesday handed down 31-year rigorous imprisonment to a militant belonging to a banned outfit.

Muhammad Husnain, belonging to Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was captured in an intelligence-based operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) near the Super City bypass on May 7.

The CTD personnel recovered 1,950 grams of explosive material, dry batteries, electronic devices including circuits, detonators, and cash.

The Civil Defence department bomb squad official defused the IED.

He was booked under the Explosive Substance Act, 1908 and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on the compliant of Sahiwal CTD Inspector Muhammad Anees.

Convict Husnain is a resident of Qasba Larain Ahmedpur tehsil, Bahawalpur.

In another case, the judge acquitted the accused in a case of an attack on a police party by three alleged dacoits after the prosecution failed to prove the charges.

Main accused Sajid Hussain and Waseem Riaz were booked in the case by the Okara Chuchak police on June 20, 2024. The FIR said a police party was attacked by three dacoits near village Bonge Bhatian and Wasif, a teenage boy, was captured.

It further said that Sajid, Gulam Qadir and Waseem fled the scene.
