SARGODHA: The ongoing tussle between Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) and Sargodha Municipal Corporation hit its high point when the officials of both government authorities clashed in a crowded Faisal Bazaar.
The shocking incident occurred when Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora expressed his desire to visit the Gurdwara whose building now housed the Ambala Muslim School. Before the visit, the municipal corporation (MC) and Pera were asked to remove encroachments from the surroundings of the school.
The heated exchange between the Pera and MC quickly turned into a scuffle.
According to an eyewitness, the argument escalated to such an extent that municipal corporation chief officer Majid Bin Ahmed, who is also deputy commissioner headquarters, had to flee the scene to save his life.
As soon as the incident was reported, the high officials took notice of the situation while an investigation was launched to find out the reasons for the clash between the two institutions.
But even the commissioner and DC could not resolve the conflict between both the authorities, which has become a serious question mark to the performance of the district administration.
The conflict between Pera and MC officials goes days back when the officials of Majid Bin Ahmed office reached the DC’s office with a complaint of rudeness and mibehaviour against Pera in-charge Abdul Jabbar. But instead of getting to the root of the matter, the administration sent the officials back with a temporary verbal consolation. On Thursday night, a Pera official adopted the same behaviour with municipal corporation chief officer.
Commissioner Muhammad Jahanzeb personally reviewed the matter from 9am to 12 noon on Friday while Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Waseem was also present. But despite their three-hour long meeting, the issue could not be resolved.
TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed in a shoot-out between rival parties over a poultry shed dispute. The deceased were identified as Daniyal and Hamidullah.
According to sources, there was a clash between two parties over the control of a poultry shed in the Shahpur Saddar area. On receiving the information, police and other agencies reached the spot and the bodies of the victims were shifted to the hospital for a post-mortem.
