BANNU: Terrorists dropped two explosive devices on the premises of Haved police station using a quadcopter on Wednesday morning. As a result, two Frontier Corps personnel, Sepoy Ghulam Zada and Sepoy Saddam sustained minor injuries, while two government vehicles were partially damaged.
It may be mentioned here that multiple security-related incidents have been reported across Bannu district, raising concerns about the law and order situation in the area. The incidents included a quadcopter attack, mortar shelling, abductions and a suspected drone strike, underscoring ongoing security challenges in the district.
In a separate incident, Nisar Ahmad, head teacher of Government High School Sardar Khan Mandev, Miryan tehsil, was allegedly abducted from the school by unidentified armed men. However, later he returned home safely.
The headmaster was reportedly taken away by two armed terrorists during school hours, causing concern among his family, colleagues and local community. CCTV footage of the incident later surfaced, showing the armed men escorting the headmaster from the school premises.
Multiple security-related incidents reported across district
Following the abduction, security agencies and local authorities initiated efforts to trace his whereabouts. Police have now confirmed that Nisar Khan has returned safely, though details regarding circumstances of his release remain unclear.
The incident sparked widespread concern in the area, with residents and members of the education sector expressing alarm over the targeting of a school teacher. Authorities are investigating into the abduction and examining the CCTV footage to identify those involved. Police said further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, a suspected drone strike occurred in Narmikhel within the jurisdiction of Bakakhel police station on Tuesday evening. A Chingchi rickshaw driver, Asif Ullah, son of Barkat Ullah, aged approximately 30 years, was injured in the attack.
On the same day, Bannu Cant was also targeted with mortar shelling. According to sources, two mortar rounds landed and exploded in the old ROD Ground area, but no casualties were reported.
Additionally, a retired Frontier Corps personnel Ali Mar Khan was allegedly abducted by unidentified terrorists from his village in Janikhel.
A sweeper identified as Mali Gul, a resident of Nurar and serving at Miryan police station, was allegedly abducted by unidentified armed men on Tuesday while on his way to offer Asr prayers at a local mosque. According to sources, the incident occurred near the mosque, from where he was forcibly taken to an unknown location.
In another incident, Muhammad Shoaib, was allegedly abducted immediately after his release from Central Jail Bannu. Sources
said that Muhammad Shoaib had been taken into custody by the Counter Terrorism Department a few days earlier on suspicion. However, following a court hearing, his release was ordered and he was subsequently freed from the jail.
Eyewitnesses said that as soon as Muhammad Shoaib stepped out of the jail’s main gate, unidentified armed men waiting in an ambulance forcibly bundled him into the vehicle and drove away to an unknown destination.
The series of incidents has raised serious concerns regarding the security situation in Bannu. Local residents and community leaders have urged the authorities to ensure safe recovery of abducted individuals and take effective action against terrorist elements to restore peace and stability in the district.
