KARACHI: Six policemen have been suspended for their alleged involvement in abducting a citizen and extorting cash from him in the DHA, officials said on Saturday.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza confirmed that six constables — Ikram, Saqib Husain, Waleed Shah, Shahzad Khan, Mohammad Faisal and Ahmed Faraz — have been suspended and an inquiry has been initiated against them.

Sharing the details of the incident, he said the policemen intercepted the citizen, Mudassir, in the Gizri area on Thursday, and took him away. They drove through multiple localities in the DHA, threatened him of dire consequencies if he did not pay them to secure his release. Finally, they extracted Rs130,000 from him through an online transaction.

Meanwhile, departmental proceedings are underway against the suspended cops. DSP Complaint Cell South District Abid Husain Soomro has been appointed as an inquiry officer to conduct a probe.
