NAROWAL: At least six persons, including children and women, were left seriously injured when a rabid dog attacked them in Badumallhi town in the district.

As per local health officials, a rabid dog roaming in different areas of the town kept attacking and mauling people.

They say that those attacked by the dog have been identified as Shakeel (39), Muhammad Al-Rahma (10), Faizan (4), Parveen Bibi (45), Afaq (29) and 8-year-old Fatima.

The injured were immediately rushed to Badumallhi Rural Health Centre (RHC), whereduty doctor Faisal Zulfiqar provided them first aid and administered rabies vaccine, they added.

Later, they were referred to Narowal District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for further treatment.

The hospital sources say that one of the injured child, Faizan (4), was referred to a hospital in Lahore, given his serious condition.

Dr Zulfiqar says that most of the injured persons were bitten by the dog on their neck and face, adding that some of the victims may need reconstructive surgery to restore their faces.

Following the incident, locals and police chased and destroyed the rabid dog.

Dr Ghulam Mustafa Sahar, Chief Executive Officer, District Health Authority, Narowal, said that all the patients injured by dog have been given first aid and administered rabies vaccine.

He claimed that free rabies vaccine is available at all RHCs and government hospitals in the district.

Locals expressing concern over the incident, accused Narowal Town Committee and district administration of failing to resolve the issue of stray dogs, demanding Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to take immediate notice of the situation.
