RAWALPINDI: Police on Friday launched a door-to-door search operation in the Landa Bazaar area and obtained CCTV footage from surrounding buildings to trace the five-year-old girl who went missing in the early hours of Thursday.

Muhammad Taimoor Awais, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) leading the search operation, told Dawn that police conducted door-to-door searches. He said the missing girl could not be found.

He said police had also obtained CCTV footage from nearby buildings and sent the DVDs for analysis to trace clues regarding the missing girl.

The police, along with water rescue teams of Rescue 1122, continued the search operation for the second consecutive day on Friday.

District Emergency Officer (DEO) Sighat Ullah of Rescue 1122 said the search and rescue operation continued to locate the five-year-old girl who went missing near Landa Bazaar. He said water rescue teams conducted boat searches, line searches and shoreline searches from Gowalmandi to the rear of Al-Shifa Eye Hospital.

On the second day, the search operation covered an area of approximately eight kilometres from Gowalmandi to the back of Al-Shifa Eye Hospital. Despite all efforts, the girl could not be recovered, the DEO said.

He said the search and rescue operation was temporarily suspended due to darkness and would resume today.

Police have already registered a kidnapping case on the complaint of the girl’s father and are searching for her.
