PESHAWAR: In a significant recognition of emerging literary talent, renowned writer, columnist and gold medalist short-story specialist Maryam Khan was conferred the prestigious Fakhr-i-Pakistan Award at a national literary conference organised by Pasban Bazm-i-Qalam Pakistan.

She received her first-ever award on her maiden short stories collection. The writer hailed from Chakdarra, Lower Dir. Literary circles have appreciated the award committee for encouraging woman literati.

The special ceremony held in Abbottabad celebrated outstanding contributions to literature. Organisers presented the award to Maryam Khan in acknowledgement of her academic excellence, creative achievements and intellectual services to Urdu literature.

Maryam Khan has rapidly established herself among the most promising voices of the new generation of writers. Through a distinctive narrative style, intellectual maturity and courageous engagement with social themes, she has secured a notable place in literary circles within a relatively short span. Her work continues to draw the attention of readers and literary enthusiasts not only across Pakistan but also on international platforms.

Her acclaimed collection Rakh Se Uthi Aurat (The woman who rose from the ashes) has received particular praise for its powerful portrayal of women’s issues, societal attitudes, human emotions and the harsh realities of life. In both her columns and short stories, Khan consistently brings to light the concerns of diverse social strata with sensitivity, awareness, and a strong sense of realism.

Expressing her gratitude upon receiving the award, the gold medalist author stated: “This honour belongs to every woman whose silent resilience inspires my pen. Literature is not merely an aesthetic exercise for me; it is a profound commitment to reflect truth, challenge injustice, and give voice to those who are often left unheard in our society.”

Reflecting on her acclaimed book, she added: “When I wrote Rakh Se Uthi Aurat, my aim was to show that women are not passive victims of circumstances, but resilient forces capable of rebuilding their lives from the very ashes of adversity. I hope this recognition encourages more young women to pick up the pen and write their own narratives without fear.”

Literati described the Fakhr-i-Pakistan Award as both a recognition of Maryam Khan’s academic distinction and literary achievements and a source of encouragement for the younger generation of writers who view literature not merely as a medium of expression but as an instrument of social consciousness and positive change.

The award marks an important milestone in Maryam Khan’s literary journey. Organisers expressed confidence that she would continue to serve Urdu literature with the same creative energy, research-oriented approach and distinctive pen in the years ahead.

Literary figures present at the conference hailed the initiative by Pasban Bazm-i-Qalam Pakistan for fostering a culture of appreciation and motivation among writers dedicated to meaningful literary work.

The ceremony underscored the vital role of such platforms in nurturing talent and promoting literature that addresses contemporary societal challenges with depth and integrity.

Maryam Khan’s recognition is likely to further inspire aspiring writers, particularly young women, to pursue literature as a force for reflection and transformation in Pakistani society.
