Storybooks are meant to entertain and educate readers. And The Loudest Roar is one such book that not only entertains and educates, but also gives younger readers something to cherish for a long time.
Written and illustrated by Thomas Taylor, this book serves multiple purposes. First of all, if you aren’t interested in text, the images will keep you engrossed for as long as you want; for those who love reading but prefer less challenging material, this is ideal. And if you want to learn by reading a book while looking at the illustrations, this book offers both fun and lessons.
The book revolves around Clovis, the ‘roaringest’ tiger in the whole world. He is young, fierce and restless, and he roams alone because, while all the other animals have friends from their tribe, he doesn’t. What he does have is a mighty roar, and somehow he feels that by sharing it with others, he would be doing them a favour.
Whether it’s happily chatting parrots, muddy wildebeest or even mighty elephants, Clovis sneaks up on them when they’re enjoying themselves and roars just to entertain himself. What he doesn’t realise is that sneaking and roaring aren’t good manners, and soon the animals get tired of him jumping out and startling them with his loud roar!
Since every problem can be solved, the issue with Clovis was also resolved easily, but that required all the animals to come up with a plan. What they did was a masterstroke, not only restoring their peace but also teaching Clovis an important lesson.
Don’t worry, they didn’t do anything serious; they just replied to Clovis in his own way. It not only made him a more responsible tiger, but also helped him make new friends, the very animals he had scared away with his roars.
As for the book, readers learn a lot from the narration and its accompanying illustrations, which show that unity is the best way to deal with issues, that disturbing someone’s peace is wrong and that being well-behaved is the best way forward. A trip through the jungle is just a bonus in this book.
