KARACHI: A trader was shot dead in an attack by unknown pillion riders in the Sohrab Goth area on Tuesday.

Sohrab Goth SHO Gul Baig said that Imran Gogan, 48, was on his way to New Karachi from Ayub Goth by a car when unknown assailants opened fire on the vehicle.

A single bullet hit him in the neck which proved fatal, the police officer said, adding that the victim died on the spot.

The SHO ruled out robbery as the possible motive for the attack, saying that it seemed to be a ‘targeted’ killing. He said the deceased was a resident of Bahadurabad.

The officer said that a media card was found in his pocket which identified him as a producer of an Urdu TV channel, but the SHO believed it was fake.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

Human rights activist Sarim Burney, talking to media personnel at the hospital, said that Imran Gogan was his friend and an industrialist. He elaborated that the deceased was the owner of a colour manufacturing factory.

The victim has left two wives and four children. He had two homes, one in the PIB Colony and the other in Bahadurabad, it was learnt.

Man killed ‘by friend’

A man was killed allegedly by his friend in Cattle Colony on Tuesday.

The police said that the victim, Mohammad Hanif, 45, was stabbed to death, apparently over some personal dispute, in the Bhains Colony area.

They picked up a suspect, Liaquat Mohammed, for interrogation after claiming that the knife used in the murder was recovered from his custody.

The police said that a scuffle took place between a group of friends before the murder. They said a broken wine bottle and blood-stained earth were collected from the site as evidence for investigation.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.
