CHAKWAL: The Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) has backed off from acquiring 1,568 kanals of fertile land near Kallar Kahar for its proposed training academy after the residents and wildlife officials raised concerns. 

The issue was reported by Dawn on July 23 which moved the authorities to reconsider the project.

“We are not acquiring the marked land,” Director General Pera retired Captain Farrukh Atique Khan confirmed to Dawn.

He said: “Some approvals were being processedfor an alternate site in the vicinity of Kallar Kahar.

“The training academy would be built at a cost of Rs6,786.27 million out of which Rs10 million has been released for the current financial year.”

A Pera official said the authority was “reconsidering and going for some alternate site. The case is with the high-ups. Final decision may be in a week or so.
