THE Government will appoint Labour Attaches in its missions in the Middle East countries and Persian Gulf States where Pakistani labour is working in large numbers, Mr Abdul Sattar Gabol, Federal State Minister for Labour and Manpower said yesterday [Aug 30]. Addressing a meeting of representatives of recruiting agencies … he said the decision has been taken to safeguard the interests and to look after the welfare of skilled and semi-skilled Pakistani workers in [Muscat], Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other Middle East and Persian Gulf States.
He said that the Government was quite aware of the activities of some of the recruiting agencies … including the illegal emigration of manpower, violation of the … emigration Act and cheating of the employer… .
He said the Government was in knowledge of certain recruiting agencies who are professionally incompetent. … He said the malpractices and irregularities of the recruiting agencies and agents were bringing bad name to the country. It would also adversely affect the prospect of overseas employment of Pakistanis, he added. … He said the Government has already cancelled the licences of 123 such recruiting agents. — News agencies
