RAWALPINDI: In a major move regarding departmental accountability, RA Bazaar and Chaklala police station house officers (SHOs) were suspended after allegations of serious corruption surfaced against them.

A police spokesman said CPO Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera had taken a major step towards departmental accountability. The SHOs have been directed to report to the Police Lines, and charge-sheets issued against them. The CPO said that corruption or abuse of power will not be tolerated under any circumstances and corrupt elements will not remain in their posts.

Meanwhile, a minor girl drowned in a nullah at Gulzar-i-Quaid on Monday, Rescue 1122 said.

Rescue teams reached the spot and started a search for the missing girl. As many as 12 rescue workers and three emergency vehicles were taking part in the search operation, which was suspended due to darkness. The search operation will resume on Tuesday morning.

In another incident, 11 people were injured, two of them critically, after their bus overturned on M-2 motorway between the Chakri and Balkasar Interchange.

A spokesman for the National Highways and Motorway Police said that a passenger bus which was on its way to Lahore from Buner overturned near Neela Dullah Interchange.

He said that the injured were shifted to Pims while those who sustained minor injuries were given first aid on the spot.
