LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning India for allegedly violating the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), declaring that any infringement of the agreement was a violation of Pakistan’s legitimate water rights and international principles.

The resolution was moved by ruling party members Rana Muhammad Arshad and Ahsan Raza. The House welcomed a decision by the Court of Arbitration supporting Pakistan’s position regarding the IWT. The resolution also paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and other members of the Pakistani team for their efforts on the issue.

The assembly demanded strict implementation of the treaty and urged the government to employ all available means to secure Pakistan’s legitimate share of river waters. It made it clear that no compromise would be accepted on Pakistan’s water rights.

The House also unanimously passed several other resolutions, including those seeking the promotion of local industry for solar panels and modern batteries, safe recycling and disposal of expired solar panels and batteries, prevention of food wastage and measures to curb environmental pollution.
